Jacare vs Pe de Chumbo

2003 Black Belt Challenge 3

Individual Match

Sao Paulo, Brazil

Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs Delson “Pe de Chumbo” Heleno

We introduced Jacare in an early post, but lets delve deeper into his resume:  2004 Absolute Champion, 2005 Medium Heavy and Absolute World Champion, 2005 Medium Heavy European Champion, and the 2005 -88kg ADCC Champion.  He would eventually move on to MMA and win the Strikeforce Middleweight Championship and is now making his home in the UFC.

Delson “Pe de Chumbo” Heleno (Pe de Chumbo means lead foot) was the  2002 Middle Weight Pan Champion and 2002 Middle Weight World Champion.  He moved on to MMA and participated in the team MMA promotion IFL. But after that organization folded, he was confined to small regional shows.

This match is Jacare’s (Blue Gi) black belt debut and, as with any MFM post, has a signature move , this time within the opening seconds.   Also, every time I watch this match, I get tired.   There are enough violent, explosive moments between the two that I don’t mind when they pause to stare at each other.   Sadly for Delson, they would meet again in the finals of the 2004 Medium Heavy World Final and Jacare would prevail again.

Enjoy Jacare vs Pe de Chumbo.
